  Playwright, Director and Scenic Designer Catherine Bourgeois

  Catherine Bourgeois is the artistic director of the theatre company Joe Jack and John, which she co-founded in 2003. After completing a BA in set design at the École supérieure de théâtre de l’UQAM (Montreal), she obtained a master’s degree in directing at the Central School of Speech and Drama (London). Over the course of the ten productions she has designed and directed with Joe Jack and John, she has won various awards (MEC-Cas, Cochons d’or, Prix artiste mi-carrière from the UQAM Arts Faculty Foundation, etc.) and has earned a reputation as a leader in the performing arts community for her unique aesthetic and inclusive casting. In addition to devoting herself to the recognition and perpetuation of the company’s mandate, which she has defended with passion for 17 years now, Catherine works and militates actively for greater recognition of the practice of women and artists with disabilities in the theatre community. 

  Catherine Bourgeois dirige la compagnie Joe Jack et John, qu’elle a cofondée en 2003. Après avoir complété un BA en scénographie à l’École supérieure de théâtre de l’UQAM (Montréal), elle a obtenu une maîtrise en mise en scène au Central School of Speech and Drama (Londres). Au fil des dix productions qu’elle a conçues et dirigées avec Joe Jack et John, elle s’est mérité diverses distinctions (prix MEC-Cas, Cochons d’or, Prix artiste mi-carrière de la Fondation de la Faculté des arts de l’UQAM, etc.) et a acquis une réputation de leader au sein de la communauté des arts vivants pour son esthétique unique et l’humanité de ses distributions. En plus de se consacrer à la reconnaissance et la pérennisation du mandat de la compagnie qu’elle défend avec passion depuis maintenant 17 ans, Catherine travaille et milite activement pour une plus grande reconnaissance de la pratique des femmes et des artistes en situation de handicap dans le milieu théâtral.
